BAZIN PUSHING PAST him with a hard knock to his shoulder, Andler exvented hot air. He didn’t have time for ornery patients today. This charade was going to end. Soon.

Rounding the corner as he stomped towards the operating room, he caught sight of Xerra down the hall. Positive she’d already have the medical supplies restocked, she was just the mella he wanted to see, his core feeling brighter.

Said mella leaning against the wall, she pushed herself from it as they made optic contact. As she stood upright, Andler held that crimson gaze, his tank somersaulting.

Shaking the feeling while also shaking his head, he spoke as he approached her. “There is only one thing that is going to get through to that mech—”

Voice trailing, he paused. There was something in the way her face was set, the way her optic ridges drooped. Then he noticed the supplies on the floor. Bazin had just come through here—

Core sinking, he picked up his pace, hands outstretched. “Did he hurt you?”

“Oh, we met in the hall, had a few laughs,” she quipped, holding up a bag of plasma she was holding. “Shared a sip of plasma together.”

Andler was in no mood for joking.

“Did he hurt you?” He annunciated each word, voice stern.

Xerra laughed. “I heard you the first time.”

Fixing the mella with a hard gaze, Andler tried to scan her.

“Do you really think I’d be standing here if he hurt me?” Xerra said with a lopsided grin.

Was she deliberately diverting his attention? She was right, though. If Bazin had so much as laid a finger on her, Andler would already know it, as the damage would have been entirely too extensive for her to hide away.

Narrowing his optics, he tried to scan her again with a different frequency. The damn disruptor remained firmly effective.

“Quit trying to scan me, Andler,” Xerra exvented, annoyed. “He didn't even try to hurt me. I’m fine.”

“You do not look fine,” Andler said with an exvent to match.

Something was wrong. Was she lying about Bazin or was she suffering from coreshock? Either way, he didn’t need to scan her to know she was low on energy.

The mella bent down, picking through the mess on the floor.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I am busy,” she said, raising as she filled her arms with the ruined supplies.

Lifting his arm, wrist cable extending from his wrist, he took a step towards her.

“Seli will attend to this mess,” he said.

“What are you doing?” she asked, taking a step back, optics flicking between his wrist cable and his face.

“I am going to ask permission and you are going to give it,” he said, reaching for the back of her neck. “You are not well. Will you allow me to transfer power?”

The doors at the other end of the hallway flew open with a bang, Fintan rushing through with the next group of emergency patients. Andler’s programming jumpstarted through every emergency protocol for battlefield injuries—

Xerra ducked under his arm. “You are needed. I must attend to Miaxa.
